The Women’s Health and Aging Laboratory specialized in urogynecology was founded in 2007 and is located at the Research Center of the Institut universitaire de gériatrie de Montréal. The lab is directed by Chantale Dumoulin, PhD, Physiotherapist and Full Professor at the School of Rehabilitation of the Université de Montréal. She was also the chairholder of the Canada Research Chair in Urogynecological Health and Aging from 2012 to 2022.

The objectives of the Women’s Health and Aging Laboratory are to better understand the causes of urinary incontinence and other gynecological issues, and develop and implement improved physiotherapy treatments targeting women who are most likely to benefit. To achieve these research objectives, the laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art tools, such as dynamometry, ultrasonography and virtual reality equipment. Ultimately, the laboratory will improve access to conservative treatments for pelvic floor dysfunction and hence, improve the quality of life of older women.
